Experience in a completely new city.
Hey my lovely readers,
I am so glad to finally start writing a blog. Believe me, I have been "planning to" write a blog since 2022 ( Whoa.. since 2 years !!!). But yea, I was lazing oops, preparing for "the right moment"( 😬).
I finally decided to pull up my socks and eat the frog. ( Hey wait a minute.. are there frogs around?? ). NOO......Quoting Brian Tracy's book on " Eat that Frog", I have decided to do the things which I was basically putting it off.
Well, it's not a mandate thing for a person to write a blog and spread it for the world to read. But it was something that I was " thinking " of doing it. ( well.. to be honest, I had written it in my bucket list of things to do ). So here I am, sharing my story for my readers to read. And hold on tight, coz you will definitely require some refreshments to read till the end 😄.
I am a girl of South Asian ethnicity. I was born in Bahrain, brought up in India, did my A levels in Kuwait and did my medical training in India. I would have desires to travel different countries, understand different cultures and traditions, try their local cuisine, learn few words in their language and to make friends of different ethnicity. My childhood dream was to move to Europe at some point in life. So when I got an opportunity to work in the UK, I grabbed it with both hands, worked hard towards it and with God's grace and good stroke of luck, my dream was fulfilled. ( well, for now..) When the time and paperwork were ready, I flew half way across the world to re -start and rediscover my life in UK.
I was also thinking of rephrasing my opening line of intro as .. " Born in Bahrain, brought up in India, did my A levels in Kuwait, went to University in India and I work in UK." ( Sounds cool eh?.. hehehe)
There is a saying that the grass is always greener on the other side. I went with excitement, expectations and hopes of greener pastures in the UK. But I did not realize that the green pastures had a very moody weather.. Sigh. Within the blink of an eye, the weather would suddenly change from being bright and sunny to cloudy and wet. And Guess what.. I hate rains.😖 No wonder seasonal affected disorder is very common.
However, that did not dampen my fire and excitement. What I find it so fascinating was locals would always address you with words like " darling, love, sweetheart" and I would be all blushed and smiling. To be honest, I have received "more sweethearts and love" within a day in England when compared to 10 years of my time in India. I later realized that they use these words mainly because they did not know your name.
Well, for a new girl in this country enriched with history, culture and different cuisines, I am just as excited ( and also slightly anxious) to re discover my life here. There is a lot of un- learning and re learning which can be exciting and nerve wrecking to be very honest. I am sure my adventure here will be a cocktail of exciting, embarrassing and life changing events. But yea, one can never know how life would turn out here, right?
